Corky McClellan
Drums Percussionist/ Vocalist
Corky has been in the music business since an early age and does not ignore his rock-n-roll background. Currently, Corky plays drums and sings with Tim Clark & the Cat 5 Band after a long tenure with The Plaids and a sizable etcetera playing with many other bands that had the need for a drummer. Corky is a musician who also plays guitar and keys and offers more than being ‘just a drummer’.
After graduating high school from the North Carolina School of the Arts, Corky played with White Wing, a top-40 variety band that toured the east coast from Newfoundland to Puerto Rico and everywhere between. Then at the young age of 18, he relocated from Clemmons, NC to Los Angeles, CA where Corky attended Musicians Institute’s ‘Percussion Institute of Technology’. Three months into the program, Corky auditioned and got the gig with a band who would end up on Atlantic Records called Baton Rouge which had nominal success right before the world of music changed. Remember in the late 80’s and early 90’s when bands used to put records out and show up on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball?
Once L.A. lost it’s appeal and a short stint talking to a volleyball in Key West, Corky got married and relocated to Nashville, TN. (Didn’t everybody?!) Unable to ‘crack the Nashville code’, he moved right back where he started in Clemmons where he has helped raise a family and has enjoyed more musical success and happiness than any other place. Strange ain’t it?!
One other notable project - Corky wrote and recorded with ‘Driver’s License’, a ‘long-distance relationship’ band with some L.A. buddies. The self-titled debut Driver’s License was released on January 1, 2023 and can be heard at all the usual places.
Having known Tim Sidden for many years - when Cat 5 found themselves in need of a drummer, Tim’s call was aptly timed which allowed Corky to come on board. Corky says “Tim Clark & the Cat 5 Band is an incredible blend of top-notch musicians. It’s really an enigma to get to play in a band with such great talents in every position.”
